And that everything you do, search or touch will be recorded by google,

IE9 and firefox are at least coming out with do not track me thingies.

I'd be suprised if google does as their business relies on tracking peoples business

I'll get it when there's an up-to-date, maintained ad blocking system. To me, no browser is even worth opening if it doesn't have an advertisement blocking system. I see that there are many in development, but until they finish those, Firefox is all I'm going to use.

Google Chrome is fundamentally dangerous for individual liberty, data protection and privacy.

Google does not protect your private data against governments.

If you really like Chrome features and speed, you better have a look at Iron browser, based on Chromium, without Big Brother.

This is the last time i'm going to say this

Google Chrome exists on Linux.

If you read MY article that this post links to then you will see this.

From the dev pages itself: -

Note: Installing Google Chrome will add the Google repository so your system will automatically keep Chrome up to date. If you don't want Google's repository, do "sudo touch /etc/default/google-chrome" before installing the package.

Download and install the package appropriate for your system (just clicking on it should do the right thing):
Dev channel (for 32-bit systems): google-chrome-unstable_current_i386.deb
Dev channel (for 64-bit systems): google-chrome-unstable_current_amd64.deb

Honestly people - READ before commenting next time! This is the last article from my site I'm allowing here.

Google Chrome for Linux does not even exist yet, how could it be my default browser? And that piece of code they position as the "beta version" is so clumsy that it won't be able to compete with Opera for at least a year.

i dont like the way fonts are rendered in chrome. fx seems much smoother. besides, in fx if i have set a page zoom for a site, fx remembers it when i open the site next time. chrome doesnt. that makes some fonts on website huge and fugly. and i hate doing the zoom unzoom every single time.

@Dierk and @d0od: I understand the confusion, I think they mean that *Chromium* is available for Linux. Google Chrome is closed source and is run through Wine...Chromium is open source, and yes, native!

However...I still think time is needed. I have given Chromium a very good play and find that there are still many bugs and missing items for anybody other than a really low-level user. For example: Chromium does not have an MIME application chooser. I want it to open videos with VLC - no dice, it will only open them with mplayerplugin and I cannot seem to change this. Also, I installed the adblock add-on above, however there is no add-on manager, so I can't readily figure out if it's actually installed.

There are some bugs that I notice too, but seeing as this is an alpha build of Chromium I won't get into them - they are minor and one should expect these things.

That said, when I go to the Google's "V8 Benchmark Suite", Chromium (v4.0.221.7 (Ubuntu build 28103)) scores a whopping 3573 when Firefox (v3.0.14) - on the same connection and computer - scores a modest 228...

I WANT to use Chromium...but it just doesn't fit my needs yet.
