try debian version.

BitDefender-Antivirus-Scanner-7.6-4.linux-gcc4x.i586.deb.run
then u need to follow some instructions that , u would need to google

start like chmod +x BitDefender-Antivirus-Scanner-7.6-4.linux-gcc4x.i586.deb.run

and then try to install
It may happen that it gives dpkg error.

Then u need to follow a set of instruction…again google them cause i dont have them right now.

For those saying that the only reason you would need an antivirus on Linux is to protect other computers running Windows, you are wrong.

If you accidentally open up a Windows virus with Wine under Linux, you could potentially trash your computer, since Wine is malware compatible. This kind of thing may normally be easier to clean up than on a Windows box (usually just kill wine and remove ~/.wine), but they can still do things like fill up your hard drive, delete your files, eat up your CPU power, download massive amounts of data off the net, etc.

Took a few mins to figure out how to dl the software from there site.
Had to pick “Evaluation Version” and fill out the form which then sent me an email where I could find the dl for the “BitDefender Antivirus Scanner for Unices”.
I also signed up for the key.
Installed very smoothly in Ubuntu 9.04.
ETA 25 mins to scan a 60GB directory I have.

The program to integrate with Nautilus is located at “/opt/BitDefender-scanner/share/integration” and is named, “gnome.tar.bz2″.

After I extract that file I have the following directory created, “/opt/BitDefender-scanner/share/integration/gnome/nautilus-bitdefender-1.0.0

Here is the list of requirements:
- gcc
- GNU LibC
- GNU Make
- GNU Autotools
- libgnome 2.0
- libnautilus-extension

*Note that it requires the development files. That means you’ll need the “The GNOME 2 library - development files” named , libgnome2-dev”. So, I can assume you have libgnome 2.0 installed but you still need to install “libgnome2-dev”. Once you install all the *dev files you should be good to go.

Now make sure you’re in the correct directory. Mine was, “/opt/BitDefender-scanner/share/integration/gnome/nautilus-bitdefender-1.0.0
”

Then run:
# ./configure
# make
# make install

Logout and log back in. Open Nautilus and right click a file or folder and select “Scan with BitDefender”.

@rfry11: I heard that the av scan engine of clamav is not so good like the on made by bitdefender, it was something about the signatures and the heurisitc engine.

@rfry11: Yes, of course you can choose what you like. I just want to introduce to you all a new tool which I think good, and I used them both in Windows and Ubuntu.

I may be a bit off here, but doesn’t Ubuntu already come with a firewall/virus scanner, or is it just a firewall?
And have we completely forgot about ClamAV? (http://www.clamav.net/)
I prefer it because it’s open source and fits directly into Linux/Unix better than this Windows program masquerading as a Linux program.

When you say “Free” to a L/Unix person it had better not be a “Trial”.

Most of us came from Windohs, not out from under a rock. I can’t speak for all, but I thought I left the old “Bait and Switch” the day I made my computer a single OS Ubuntu machine.

I’m terribly disappointed.

I must be doing something wrong because I can’t even get it to download. I go to the site, I ask for a license I try and download and I get fifteen screens none of which are BitDefender for Unices. Help? Can you possibly link straight to the download page?

Tried to install it last week on ubuntu 8.10 and could not find installation instructions that were correct on bitdefender web site, ubuntuforums or searching the web.

Anybody got it installed and working correctly?
