My experience .. FF 3.04, crashing on flash intensive sites including rotten tomatoes, eddiebauer, etc.

I reinstalled the latest Flash .. no help
I disabled flash .. no help
I disabled the AVG Safe Search ... NOW NO PROBLEMS!

I use AVG anti virus and in it's latest incarnations it installs these browser "aids". While I have liked AVG in the past it seems they are becoming as intrusive as Norton or McAffee is/was. Not exactly loving AVG's newest stuff.

You results may vary but this works for me.

Yes, firefox craches and crashes and crashes and crashes across various versions regardless of activity. It did not do this in the past but IE did. And then some snotnose kid name firefox said "look at me, I have the testicular sufficiency that ie lacks, I'm perfect." And the world fell in love--probably even fondles firefox's keyboard and all. But just as Microsoft familiarity bred customer contempt firefox is doing the same thing, perhaps more, verging on hate with a vengence. Hang out a suffer if you want.

Today IRON is where FF was about the time of FF v01. By my reconning we have a couple of years of clean sailing before IRON screws up as well. Its software, the company will declare you to be the revenue center that supports their product regardless of its condition.

OK I have found that the screen saver option is not the real problem BUt i have reduced the crashing by quite a lot! how ? you ask!

ok listen UP people: the Idea came to me when someone mentioned that it was happening to machines running in "parallel Ram" mode!

IN MY BIOS I DID 2 THINGS:

I REMOVED THE PARALLELISATION OF THE RAM
and (i think this did it) I INCREASED THE AMOUNT OF RAM RESERVED FOR VIDEO FROM 30 TO 100

The result?:
1.A lot less crashes(firefox is still bugging a little but rare other progs. clean)
2.I can watch movies full screen with no choppy images or sound displacement

I hope this works for you guys, all the best to you all

YYYes!!!
I found found what seems to be the source of this problem for Ubuntu Users:

The SCREEN SAVER

I disconected my screen saver and since I have not had a single crash in any programe:
"as well as firefox my other programmes, games or applications would close(crash) from time to time but now its been 36 hours of crash free sailing .
Hope this works for you guys

I had problems with Firefox and IE crashing all the time. I've just upgraded my laptops RAM from 512Mb to 2Gb and it's stopped crashing. My guess is that a lot of internet sites now have videos and gizmos etc running on them and my RAM wasn't man enough to deal with it.

I am wondering if this is still a valid workaround or is there a more permanent solution? I have numerous firefox 3 crashes in ubuntu and they seem to happen when I click on links that launch a popup or on video-related links. The errors are related to my utils.js file.

I am not sure how to even diagnose where the problems are coming from.

Thanks for any help.

I've found a reasonable workaround. Remove the nspluginwrapper as well as the flashplugin-nonfree. Re-install flashplugin-nonfree. Go to System > Preferences > Sound. Change all the playback methods to ALSA. This will effectively disable Pulseaudio, and avoid the grey screen of death that is prevalent with the offered solution. Hopefully they can get the bugs worked out of Pulse ASAP.

I did the "fix" and I no longer had the crashes happening, but as others here I had a blank box where the flash video should have been. I did some looking around and I also installed swfdec-mozilla and dependencies (sudo aptitude install swfdec-mozilla). I could view (with sound) the youtube videos again without crashing. This was on a 32 bit system. I hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks, though this hasn't completely solved the issue, it has reduced it from painful to bearable

That solution didn't fix the problem on my 64bit AMD version of Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 installation. I installed the Swiftweasel web browser hoping that it would run without Flash problems but it also has the same issue.

Thank you for this tip. Works like a charm for a bug that is awful and frustrating. Why can't Ubuntu fix such bugs through updates? It is just plain silly to leave to the user to search for solutions to such everyday problems. Thanks again.

Nearly every major website uses flash. Ubuntu needs to convince everyone to change their websites, or fix the flash-is-gray-square bug. I'm on 64-bit Athlon, btw. This is frustrating.
