I continously get this:

W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net hardy Release: Följande signaturer kunde inte verifieras för att den öppna nyckeln inte är tillgänglig: NO_PUBKEY 9BDB3D89CE49EC21
W: Du kan möjligen rätta till problemet genom att köra “apt-get update”

it means that W: the following signatures could not be verifyed because the open key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 9BDB3D89CE49EC21
W: You could possibly correct the problem through running “apt-get update”

That doesn’t work and when I try to open firefox under applications it just won’t open. What to do? Anybody?

Solution that worked for me, to run Liferea again.
Go to the packet manager and revert the xulrunner package to the latest distro version. In my case that was 1.9.0.19.

I followed the instructions above for Hardy Heron, and I got no error messages. However, I don’t see any icon for Firefox at all. Can someone help?

Okay, I followed the instructions and ended up with Namoroka 3.6.1pre. I would like to go back to 3.5,7, but it is no longer in my listing. Any suggestion as to how I get back?

If all you require is to get the latest regular (32bit) Firefox, then you’d better go the Ubuntuzilla route, it’ll have you setup and keep you updated in no time.

But if you want the x64 unofficial versions, then it’s gonna be hit & miss; my best shot was with this ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~mozillateam/+archive/firefox-stable

But I still had to download the debs and use dpkg --force-dependencies, after removing the default 3.0 version to get a Firefox 3.6 (not Namoroka) up and running, so YMMV…

I ran this, and “apt-get install firefox-3.6″ ran successfully, but firefox-3.6 did not get installed.

Doing dpkg -L firefox-3.6, the only thing the package seems to install is the firefox-3.6 changelog:
$ sudo dpkg -L firefox-3.6
/.
/usr
/usr/share
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/firefox-3.6
/usr/share/doc/firefox-3.6/changelog.gz

What’s up with that?

I don’t like that it gets rid of 3.5 in case 3.6 has issues. I grabbed a nightly from mozilla here ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/latest-firefox-3.6.x/ Then I can run the two in parallel

Ad-Block Plus and NoScript don’t start after update to 3.6. So, I’ll wait until they become compatible

Argh! I generally use Epiphany because it is faster than Firefox, though the reviews saying 3.6 is much faster inspired me to give it a shot (as I do appreciate Firefow).

I followed these instructions and upgraded my rarely used Firefox to 3.6, but: 1) it erased both my quick-launch button to start firefox and the firefox link in the applications tab - I now have to use search to find the application and start it from there; 2) Firefox will not close or minimize via the buttons in the top-right corner, only via the file menu; 3) My Liferea feed reader no longer works and sends me a message upon boot reading “The application has been updated, but your version of SQLite is too old and the application cannot run.” before it closes; and 4) Epiphany will no longer load any page from bookmarks or that has the address typed in manually, I can only follow links.

I have no idea why upgrading Firefox would damage Epiphany but it seems to have since the problem started following this upgrade! Can anyone help with any of these problems?

That’s unstable nightly builds of Firefox, not the true 3.6 version. I don’t want an unstable browser. Do you know if there’s a repos for official amd64 builds? Ubuntuzilla is only for 32bits…

ubuntu 9.10;
i just added the repos; ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa
-updated and upgraded (it upgraded automaticly from 3.5 to 3.6)
now i’m having Firefox ‘Namoroka’ vers. 3.6.1pre
did loose its icon but working fine -some addons doesn’t work -well that happens always when upgrading to fresh one

Reinstalled 3.6 for attempt two at making it more friendly.

Can’t sort out the ugly font. The font hinting tweak that worked with 3.5 appears to do nothing with 3.6

Installing Addon Compatibility Reporter allows the three disabled addons to work in 3.6 (though they still show as being disabled). They all work perfectly without any issues thus far. Certainly an easier way than having to edit the version compatibility details in a text editor so highly recommended.

It doesn’t ignore Gnome settings, it depends on which distrib of FF have you installed. If it was the binary from the official site then it could be some issues since it’s a clean distrib (Ubuntu installs some additional gnome-integration packages along). Anyway you can enter your proxy settings in FF’s Network options.

Concerning addons - read the following:

You can use ‘extensions.checkCompatibility.3.6′ option in about:config.

I’ve found 3.6 to not be compatible with 3 of my add-ons so far (IETab, useless in ubuntu though , Blackout, and check4change). I’m sure there are more important ones that are incompatible but I went back to 3.5 not but a minute after installing it seeing as certain add-ons were gone.

3.6 is not compatable with zotero and maybe other plugins.
