I followed your guide and was able to successfully install google-gadgets. Thanks! Only problem though is that there are only four gadgets available. How and where do I get more gadgets?
Thanks in advance!

It would appear that the linux version of gadgets lacks the functionality of the 'doze version.

On windows, there's an option to "Configure gadgets..." (just below "Add gadgets..."), which you're supposed to be able to use to sync gadget data across computers through your gmail account.

I.e., your Scratch Pad would be updated on your various machines.

And speaking of scratch pad, I don't see it in the linux version. Weird.

Too bad, as that'd be a pretty useful function. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

I run Debian Lenny. Though most of your posting work for me, this one doesn't. Is there a debiangeek.com?

Thanks.

Dim,

Thanks - that worked. I've just switched back to Ubuntu from openSuSE and gDesklets didn't seem to work.

I like a certain amount of eye-candy on the desktop.

@JJMacey: open System->Preferences->Startup Applications and drag-and-drop Google Gadgets from Applications menu to the dialog.

Those who don't look for easy ways to do things would probably advice editing some files in this case.

I noticed in your final screenshot that the battery meter shows 0 charge. I added that gadget and found out that it works the same on my laptop--it never displays the charge and just sits at zero. Any ideas how to get the gadget to be able to sense my battery charge?

I know, this site is called "Ubuntu Geek" but why always use command line? Google Gadgets is available via Add/Remove as a simple checkbox and "Apply" button. Also you could use AptUrl, for example,

To install Google Gadgets click this link

Why always make simple things complex (at least make the look complicated for newbies)?
