Features of Opera include tabbed browsing, page zooming, mouse gestures, and an integrated download manager. Its security features include built-in phishing and malware protection, strong encryption when browsing secure web sites, and the ability to easily delete private data such as HTTP cookies.
First download latest Opera .deb package from here
Once you downloaded the .deb file install this file using the following command
sudo dpkg -i opera_10.00.4585.gcc4.qt3_i386.deb
Install flash plugin using the following command
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
If you have problem with your videos follow this procedure
Open Opera
Click on Tools > Preferences >go To The advanced tab
Click on Downloads on the left side
find the one that says application/x-shockwave-flash
Click Edit at the bottom it says Use Plugin from the pull down menu
select the one that says: ‘Shockwave Flash - /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.
so’ if it doesn’t work you can try a different one from the pull down menu
Click OK and exit
Install Java plugins using the following command
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-fonts sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin ubuntu-restricted-extras
A better download for Ubuntu is the qt4 version, found here: ftp://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/linux/1000/final/en/i386/
With this version of Opera your fonts are better looking, and you can go to Tools>Appearances>Color Scheme, and select use system color scheme. This will theme opera to your ubuntu theme.
Another good tip: install the gecko-mediaplayer. this installs gnome-mplayer, and you will have the best video playback. if flash and java are already installed on your system, opera will automatically find them.

I would NOT install java6 in multiverse - instead, use openjdk and it’s icedtea plugins. Much better and OPEN.

Who cares about Opera? At least anybody reading this thread, unless they’re just here to be an idiot.
You should use repositories and install through the package manager, rather than directly get the .deb file. I used this method and ended up with Opera complaining bitterly everytime I tried to open email, it had no root SSL certificates installed, so the security was basically entirely asking me to verify and accept every certificate!
10x better than firefox.
