I found out that on Ubuntu 9.04, you can not use

gksudo wminput -d -c ir_ptr [your wiimote's bluetooth address here]

for your panel icons, but

sudo wminput -d -c ir_ptr [your wiimote's bluetooth address here]

works fine.

Y'know, there is also Xwii. It's a bit easier to script and use than wminput. Much easier to use if you just need to set up a basic remote control or gamepad. I've built a working package in my PPA.
