@Jorge Blanco: Unfortunately, you can’t have Do for Hardy that easy way because the new version of Do require newer Mono library. The only way is compiling Do from source using a backported version of Mono Develop.

I have Gnome-Do ver.0.6.1 on Hardy. Downloaded the latest one 0.8.1(so far) and couldn’t get it to install (did it manually, since the repository only goes up to the 0.6 one). Make fails with some function/cast error. Any ideas how to get it to work?

In Hardy you wont be able to get any version past the 6.* to work,I Tried this and does not work. even if you download the .deb the libs are not the ones you need, you can’t purge them or update them.

I am Just waiting for Jaunty (since is LTS), Hope Gnome Do works on it.

If you search for gnome-do in synaptic packet manager, do you see “current version: 0.5.0.1.0~ppa1~hardy” ?
If not, press CTRL+R and update to that version.

I think this may be the problem :-s

i did what is said below but still no results and me i have gusty on my computer some help please

That is because you have most likely installed the version in the main ubuntu repos. Solution:

sudo apt-get remove gnome-do

Then follow the given instructions from step one. If you follow the given instructions, you will get the version from the new repo that they have you add.
The new version has the preferences and such.

Fr33d0m: lol, r u using hardy? I added the gutsy repository by mistake.

sudo apt-get remove gnome-do
edit /etc/apt/sources.lst, replace gutsy with hardy
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnome-do

Yes Gnome-Do is a launcher application, similar to Launchy on Windows. It seems to have a lot more functionality than the in-built Gnome Deskbar.

I also have the same problem. Preferences are missing and the plugins folder is empty.

Hi there, I just started using Ubuntu a couple of weeks ago, so I’m still relatively new to the scene. Would it be safe to assume that Gnome-do for Linux is kind of like Launchy for Windows?
