Clicked download button from google.com
Then clicked Install button on Ubantu Software installation button.

Everything worked within a minute.

Ok jeff, like you are trying to encourage newbies to install an unknown package from an unknown site as root, it’s against my principles too

Hi, hahaha Mahmoud .. i got the game trying to install that browser … jajaja

…. for those still looking for it to work like Gaffle.

i downloaded the package from http://chrome.google.com
and then applied steps

For ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) Users add the following two lines

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/chromium-daily/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/chromium-daily/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main

Save and exit the file

Now add the GPG key using the following command

sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 0xfbef0d696de1c72ba5a835fe5a9bf3bb4e5e17b5

then just used the package manager from my ubuntu 8.10 OS and worked!! wohooo!!!

Hi,
if you typed
$sudo apt-get install chromium
you will be installing a nice game called chromium but the right command is
$sudo apt-get install chromium-browser

I followed your instructions on Karmic for netbooks, on the last input this happened:
sudo apt-get install chromium-browser
Reading package lists… Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information… Done
E: Couldn’t find package chromium-browser

i only used :

$ sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 0xfbef0d696de1c72ba5a835fe5a9bf3bb4e5e17b5

and
$ sudo apt-get install chromium

in terminal.

Thank you for this. I used to use Chrome on my wife’s computer before I switched her over to Linux. I didn’t realize I could use it on Ubuntu until a few days ago. Since I upgraded to 9.10 most things have been great, but Firefox is really buggy at the moment.

Used the instructions above, but as a fan of not using the command line, I can confirm it is completely do-able using System->Software Sources to update the sources.
Then, as usual, use System->Synaptic Package Manager and search for Chromium (all on Karmic, AMD64).

To us “geeks” this might be obvious, but there’s plenty of would-be-windows-converts who will Google and be put off with “gedit” etc.

Thanks for the info - next stop, getting flash etc installed in Chromium!

Just one thing, why is that on some sites fonts look messy ?

Note that in Karmic, it’s even easier to add the PPA and get its key - just use this command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:chromium-daily

I am very new to ubuntu, so I do not know all of the jargon so bear with me. I have installed chromium and it is extremely fast. I realize they say that it will not run flash or videos such as youtube but is there a way to play them anyway? If not, how long will it take to fix it so we can run such things?
