Hi guys, thanx for the links and updates, but i just install karmic from an old cd, was kindoff fedup of XP, and im trouble with video codecs, cant install vlc or mplayer, even after the above steps work fine, still cant get MPlayer in synaptec or software centre. need help. plz. have tried several repositories, but always get a dependency error.

The plugin ‘mozilla-mplayer’ does not get along with the ‘totem-mozilla’ that may be installed by default. Therefore, remove it.

sudo apt-get remove totem-mozilla

There’s an Error in the wget line on the medibuntu repo. delete the Space between

-- and output-document

This is the corrected line:

sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list

That is only code background for wordpress double dashes so you just use the full command fixed now

Nevermind. Turns out I had a problem with my libx264-67 library. I uninstalled it, uninstalled mplayer completely, and reinstalled. Good to go, thanks!

Upgraded to Karmic from Jaunty tonight. In Jaunty, I had no problems playing wmv, flv, etc files in MPlayer. After upgrade, I cannot. I tried what is proposed in this article (even tried reinstalling mplayer, w32codecs, etc) with no luck.

I took a look at medibuntu’s site, and it appears that they do not have the karmic version of mplayer up yet, so I wonder if that’s the reason.

Any ideas?
