LightScribe - Simple Labeler Install in Ubuntu

Because the labels are laser-etched—not printed—there’s no ink, no smudging, and no peeling.
Your labels can be whatever you want them to be. Create one-of-a-kind designs with your own photos, text, and artwork using your label-making software. Or choose from the many free backgrounds the software provides.

You will need a LightScribe drive and a blank LightScribe CD or DVD.
Go to the Downloads section from here and get the two deb packages, then double click to install.
LightScribe System Software
LightScribe Simple Labeler
After both are installed make a launcher for it.
Note: You can also double click on the SimpleLabeler file to start it.
File Location: Filesystem/opt/lightscribeApplications/SimpleLabeler
Go to Main Menu - System > Preferences
Under Applications click Accessories to the left, then to the right hit New Item.
Now click on the image icon (upper left), then Copy-and-Past below location in.
Note: Navigating to a icon image and selecting it does not work for some reason.
/opt/lightscribeApplications/SimpleLabeler/content/images/LabelWizardIcon.png
Type: Application
Name: LightScribe (Simple)
Command: /opt/lightscribeApplications/SimpleLabeler/SimpleLabeler
Comment: Simple CD/DVD Labeler
Start LightScribe (Simple) - Applications > Accessories

Don’t forget LightScribe Labeler for Linux (4L), that allows you to use an image or photo as a label.
Unfortunately, only RPMs are provided, but they can be easily converted with alien.

Simple Labeler is what it says it is – SIMPLE. What I need most is an ability to add pictures that I have created myself. Is there any software that would do that? I was so far unsuccessful in finding anything.

Whilst this software is ok I prefer the LaCie LightScribe Linux Labeller.
I utilize both.
The one you mentioned for simple labels, and the LaCie software for more advanced labelling.

The problem with LaCie software is that you have to use their host software too and it does not allow tweak for darker images.
So the choice is: no custom background but dark enough or custom background but very light image.

What about 64bit? Would be nice to see a guide for x86_64 architecture!

I’m with Remu on this one, it would be nice if they could finally bring out the 64bit version. I been waiting for it for a while now, actually i been waiting for both 4l and the simple labeler…

@Karolis: if you need darker images, just burn the same disc twice. It works perfectly.

Does the device recognize how the image is positioned on the disc? Sounds unbelievable, but I’ll have to try it. Thanks for the tip!

@Karolis: yes it does. That’s what those “bar-code-like” inscriptions on the perimeter of the inner circle of the discs are for.

I installed LaCie and 4L
I purchased an hp dvd1040 drive and have been scribing a logo for a band onto the disks
the logo must have a black background as shown
I haven’t been able to find any white disks does any one know if they exist?
Im having a problem with the quality of my scribed disks you can clearly
see rings on all the disks the (the rings are more distinguishable and less
consistent as i scribe the same disk multiple times) and the disk is not
dark enough for my purpose after 1 or 2 scribes.
