#apt-get install wine
Than download and install utorrent.exe

Using Mint, I like deluge but find it cannot save (for some reason) over a network even though the destination is mounted and can be read it just generates error. But Vuze and Transmission work fine.

If you're techy enough to want to remotely access your torrent from another machine then using Firefox shouldn't present you with a problem.

What you need is to get Portable Apps on a memory stick, you can just plug it into whatever computer you're using and you won't even leave a history behind.

Now it doesn't matter that IE is still going to be the only browser on any given PC because you always have Firefox with you. You can also kit it out with your favourite plug-ins and bookmarks so it's just like home.

Lets not call one another names, it's the single most likely thing to make a thread go off topic.

Clutch/Transmission is a really elegant web configured torrent client. It does not require a full LAMP server behind it, and it looks good. Too bad they don’t support Internet Explorer. . because as they say, “it would be a pain in the butt.”
Thats all well and good, except the whole point behind having a web UI for a Bittorrent client is so that you can access that client from another machine. What browser are you most likely to find on other machines? Why it’s Internet Explorer! Golly gee! Their reasoning is understandable. . what they want to use for a UI cannot be done in IE 6 or 7, or likely even 8 because of lack of standards support. Thats fine. Cant they provide at least a utilitarian interface for IE though? No. Instead I have to wrestle with the only other common web torrent client package, torrentflux - and I hate Torrentflux.

Any other Bittorrent client that provide a web UI require X, which is against the point of running a headless Bittorrent download server. If I wanted to run X, I might as well run Windows 2000 and plop uTorrent on it.

Sheesh!

-------------

You really are a retard, There are more browsers than just IE out there, And firefox is far by the best.

uTorrent (in Wine).
A torrent app is sorta like basic to me now. Browser, torrenter, IM. Can live without them. And as a relative newcomer to Linux I have to express disappointment with two of the three..
Azureus I havn´t tried but with all the comments about being a hog and slow I´m gonna pass on that. But I did try Transmission (didnt much like it on a mac either), Deluge, Q and r and as a gui person I found them all half baked and rather primitive. They all seemed to lack features too - or rather the ease of using some features and all seemed to be buggy.
kTorrent was easily the best of the lot - tho looking around the place I suspect not many will agree - but it seemed relatively polished.
All downloaded files ok - it was getting to that point that was the issue.
uTorrent on the other hand is polished, full featured, great to use, gives great feedback and is highly configurable. AND it installs and runs flawlessly in Hardy under Wine.
For me the question is ¨Why isn´t there a decent native Torrent app in Deb or Ubuntu¨? Bit sad if you ask me.

I don't use it any more, because I only use torrents, but mlDonkey does multiple protocol downloading (torrent, eDonkey, all sorts of protocols). Last I heard, it could even convert hashes between the protocols so if the same file was on eDonkey, torrent and DC++, it can download some from one network and other bits from others.

Deluge rocks for me !
Been using it since almost a year now. Pretty fast in development and very stable. The dev team is very active to iron out minor (and !) major bugs very fast. Currently there are in RC stage for next major version change 1.0 which has lots and lots of exciting new features and speed !!

Hi,

unfortunately, the deluge client often does not start / open, when you launch it. The alleged reason for this failure: One of the configuration files of deluge (a plain text file) is corrupted. Yes, regarding deluge there's a real danger that a small text file (size ca. 25 kb) gets corrupted!

The solution to that problem is: you have to delete that corrupted configuration file. The result would be: you can start / open deluge without any configuration, and you have to try to save the torrent files downloaded so far (in former sessions of deluge). Good luck!

And please remember: Deluge is not a program of the 1970s - it's a program of 2008. Indeed, deluege is modern up to date software!

Only one mention of encryption, though more of the clients listed do have the option. It may be worth adding more about it, as for many, encrypting torrents because of snooping ISPs is essential.

I use Deluge and I love it. If you want more functionality add Plugins. But if you like basic easy to use torrenting (is that a verb?) the vanilla install is all you need.

I first found out about it because I searched for full stream encryption.

I use rtorrent, running as a service, with rtGui (local php website) and xmlrpc in python to provide further control. It means that I can administrate my BT's remotely without being logged in. I can also get torrent details on my desktop through conky and a python script :)
