What's wrong with Mono?

IF Mono (Microsoft's .NET clone) becomes the default on the Linux desktop then what is the point of Linux?

"Launchpad broken, non-functional nonsense" Sounds kind of deep, but I don't think it was supposed to do that.

I followed the steps to install in Lucid and was shown that dkms{u} fakeroot{u} linux-headers-2.6.32-21{u} patch{u} would be removed freeing 75mb of space. That didn't sound good so I aborted. I then installed Pinta through synaptic and it did not say the header would be removed. Was it supposed to do that?

To Arkadi: Java is owned by Oracle, so we shouldn't use it?? Nonsense!
C#/.NET based on ECMA standard. Good blog post from Miguel (GNOME/GTK/MONO founder):

I'm sure it could be ported to Vala really easily, but I think it should be done now while the project code is still small.

I wonder if this program uses some mono-only stuff. Since it's done in gtk (apparently) couldn't it be implemented in Vala?

MONO based on the '.net' technology which belongs to Mirosoft's. Any user who uses software based on MONO is encouraging the usage of Microsoft's patents, and because of those users more software like that is written. One day Microsoft will become inpatient and will sued your favorite distribution makers because they include mono software or close the development of your favorite software because those legal issues.
What would you do then? Because of that I'm trying not to use MONO based software.

Sorry for my bad English.

Hi Miguel!

From Mono development homepage:
"An open source, cross-platform, implementation of C# and the CLR that is binary compatible with Microsoft.NET" Mono is used in for example Banshee, Beagle, F-Spot, Moonlight and Tomboy.

Hi! A question from the ignorance: What's the problem if the program uses MOMO? As final user if this program is light that GIMP for simple things I think that I'll use it. I don't care if uses MOMO or not unless if the fact of use MOMO causes damage to someone.

Regards

Starts fast and that's enough for me, thanks. I'm not a progger, so MONO or NOT MONO doesn't mean nothing for the user.
