Pithos is a Pandora client for the GNOME Desktop. The official Flash-based client is a CPU hog, and Pianobar is a great reverse-engineered implementation, but is command-line only. Neither integrate with the desktop very well, missing things like media key support and song notifications.

Features

* Play / Pause / Next Song
* Switching stations
* Remembering user name and password
* Cover Art
* Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down / Tired of this song
* Notification popup with song info
* Launching pandora.com song info page and station page
* Reconnecting when pandora session times out
* Editing QuickMix
* Creating stations
* Media Key support
* Proxy support
* Last.fm scrobbling

Install pithos in ubuntu 11.04/10.10/10.04/9.10

Open the terminal and run the following commands

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kevin-mehall/pithos-daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install pithos

    I just started using this. So much better than using Pandora with flash.

  3. Does anyone know if it supports proxy connections? I live in Korea and can’t use Pandora due to stupid international copyright issues.

  4. Matt says:

    It has a “Proxy URL” setting, but I’m not sure what kind of proxies it supports.

    When Pithos got installed with the software center Ubuntu 11.10 it did not work. So I did the install as shown above using the terminal it works great

  9. Matt says:

    @Thomas: Yeah, the version of Pithos included in Ubuntu 11.10 is out of date. Only the newest version currently works since it contains changes from the Pandora API that broke older versions.

    Glad you found the PPA here.

    Thanks, I couldn’t get Pithos to work when downloading through Software Centre, this worked a charm!

    Thank you so much for this. Couldn’t get pandora to work on firefox, only chrome, but this solved the problem. So easy to install and use.
