Redshift adjusts the color temperature of your screen according to your surroundings. This may help your eyes hurt less if you are working in front of the screen at night.
Redshift adjusts the color temperature according to the position of the sun. A different color temperature is set during night and daytime. During twilight and early morning, the color temperature transitions smoothly from night to daytime temperature to allow your eyes to slowly adapt. At night the color temperature should be set to match the lamps in your room. This is typically a low temperature at around 3000K-4000K (default is 3700K). During the day, the color temperature should match the light from outside, typically around 5500K-6500K (default is 5500K). The light has a higher temperature on an overcast day.
Install redshift in ubuntu 10.10/10.04
Open the terminal and run the following commands
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jonls/redshift-ppa
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install redshift

Doesn’t work on Linux Mint 10.04, the automation mode doesn’t work. On Windows 7 everything works well.

In order to use this applications you must go to System > Administrations > Time and Date. Click on “Click to make changes” and install “ntp” (network time protocol) Then in the Configuration chose “Keep synchronized with internet servers” and then Close.
Now, go and right click on the clock from top right of the pannel and click on Preferences. In the Location tab click on Add and in the Location Name box tipe your city or something close to you. In the Tiime zone chose your location, country or capital of your city then click OK and now you cant start Redshift from Applications > Accessories > Redshift. Icon will appear as in the picture above
