I am trying to use Synaptic Package Manager in 10.04 to install Wesnoth, but when I try to mark it for installation it complains that it needs other packages in order for it to work. In older versions of Ubuntu, Synaptic would just mark other dependencies for installation automatically - how do I enable this functionality? (I could, of course, install each and every package manually but that would be extraordinarily time-consuming.)

My Synaptic Package Manager (Ubuntu 10.04) is frozen shut. The error message I get is: "E: Malformed line 54 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse) E: The list of sources could not be used." This all happened after I tried to install java from the terminal. What do I do?
