It might be useful to point out WHY Windows should be installed first in a dual-boot system. If you install Ubuntu first, Windows will wipe out the boot menu and you will no longer be able to load Ubuntu! This can be fixed, but it’s a bit of a thorny hassle — particularly for inexperienced users. So yes, do Windows first, and then Ubuntu will thoughtfully create the boot menu. :)

Windows 7 uses a different file system, so it will never see your Ubuntu partition. On the other hand, Ubuntu is capable of seeing both.

    Try the tips here:

    http://www.knowliz.com/2009/10/installed-windows-7-now-ubuntu-wont-start.html

They may help restore your missing boot menu.

I think it sad when someone gives obviously wrong information.

“Windows 7 uses a different file system, so it will never see your Ubuntu partition.”

For the Windows 7 users try:
    Ext2Read – Ext2fsd – Ext2IFS – DiskInternal Linux Reader.

These are programs you would try AFTER getting a dual-boot to work. They are not included as part of a normal Windows 7 installation. I think it sad when someone gives obviously wrong information.

I do not understand how to do this:
    select /boot give 2000 MB

I cannot see anything that looks like /boot
I wish some website explained very specifically how to partition the disk, for people who don’t know anything about Linux.
I guess I’ll have to give up and just have one huge partition, which is not what I want.

Never mind. I just got Slackware to run instead.
It would be useful if Ubuntu explained what “Daemon is inhibited” means. Lots of people want to know, and don’t get good answers.
