Updated with some more media players

What about Real-media formats (rm, rmvb)?
From my experience, Mplayer can play Real files quite well. (I use Mplayer from Medibuntu repo.)

You could add XBMC

What about totem? It’s standard installed under Ubuntu, and is pretty good to.
Some little who can play mkv’s.
VLC FTW!!!

Rhythmbox and Totem play also FLAC. If i remember right, Songbird also.

Exaile would make a wonderful addition to this list. It plays WMA/AAC/MP3/OGG/FLAC, has a beautiful GUI, and offers an easy in-program tagging option.
Thanks!

Great list.
I started one that has some of the same lines in UbuntuForums.org. This is more complete though.
How about adding these to the list:

VLC plays DVD iso’s as well.

How about Listen and Xine?

Interesting page but I have one problem. AVI’s are carriers to different codecs. It would be more useful to know the codecs supported. Also support for 32 bit is different for 64 bit.
I have run into this at home. Videos that play in 32 bit won’t play in 64 bit due to codec support.
Indeo codecs are one example.

Songbird plays .flac files too. I’m listening to one right now:-)

Oneiric. Cannot set flac as preferred file in preferences –> music. Flac is not listed.
