My advice ….don’t do it .
I did …it took hours …lost the internet connection…and the start up is way slower …takes 5 minutes to load the Desktop.
I’m no expert , but I’ve used Linux for years …so if you got Fiesty working , don’t bother with the upgrade !

I’ve upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy on a Lenovo X61s.

After reboot, the visual interface won’t work and I have this message “no suitable module for running kernel” found.

If I start in recovery mode, I am proposed to fix the xserver, but if I do it does not help.

Help!

Hi,
When I tried to upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04 , the update manager gives an error:

“Could not download the release notes
Please check your internet connection.”

I am able to brows internet. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

I upgraded and now the synaptic package manager is inoperative. I can no longer retrieve updates or add any missing files. I need csh to configure my printer.

I decided to try to install the new Ubuntu 8.04 rather than trying to update version 7.10.

I once again could not see where the new version was installed, and the only system I could access was an earlier version of Kubuntu.

After installing 8.04 I was able to log in, but…

When the initialization window opened up, Ubuntu 8.04 was not on the list of operating systems, and not selecting one of the choices allowed a default startup. That let me to log in, but I got a blank desktop and a moveable cursor.

I found one key PrtSC Sys Req to open up an image capture window, but I was unable to do anything, other than see that my now inaccessible files and folders still appeared to be listed.

I had to open a backup Ubuntu 7.10 2.6.22-14 which actually opened up an old version of Kubuntio I had on my hard drive.

on this day it does not seem to give me the option to upgrade… is it frozen?? i guess i can wait 10 days for the official release, but right now i kinda have nothing to do and wanted to try the upgrade…

If you upgrade to a --dev-release, will you have to upgrade again (to a distribution release using -c) when Hardy is officially released?

i just upgrade to ubuntu 8.04 but the upgrade end withe error , it is stop at the end of the step” installing the upgrades” and don’t do the” cleaning ” and the” restart” so i restart it manuale and i have the upgrades !! i get it work but i know that there is some files some were that must deleted i tray to re install the upgrade withe the order “update-manager --devel-release” but it is not work now it say the the system is already update soo what to do ?? i want the upgrade to be really perfect

It will break ndiswrapper too.. unless they have fixed it ve3ry recently, so be aware of that if you have need to use wifi that isnt supported in the kernel

It might be a good idea to grab a copy of the install CD before you begin. My system refused to login after upgrade, being able to reinstall without internet was handy.

It also might be good to keep in mind that the Beta is not bug free, like the “production machine” warning says. As someone pointed out, since the Ubuntu releases are on a fixed cycle, they can be a bit of a rough ride.

I think the beta is definitely worth seeing though. Every release I am amazed by the number of things that improve from the last, both in style and in function. (In Gutsy I really fought to get wireless working, in Hardy it’s been up out of the box, sorta - nm-applet breaks from time to time, but there was no hunting down windows drivers and replacing the default linux drivers to connect to security enabled networks.)
