Amazing program, and the first time I've had real success with a persistent Ubuntu. The ability to run this within Windows via VirtualBox is the real selling point for me though - removes any worries about finding a USB bootable mobo whilst on the go.

One problem, though. The persistence works absolutely perfectly via Windows & portable virtual box, but when I try to boot from the USB, the boot fails if using persistent mode. Works fine if I just use Live mode, but if I select persistent, I get endless IO buffer errors. I wonder if this is me doing something wrong, or perhaps a known issue. If anyone's got any input on a fix for this, I'd love to hear it.

Hi,

for me it worked fine with 9.04,
but is there a way to get an User with password and not the ubuntu default user to auto login at startup.
The autologin settings get overruled every boot time.

Thanks for you help

Does nothing for me. The computer won't recognize the usb drive as bootable (but does boot from other usb's) and virtual box doesn't do anything because the executable isn't there (just help files).

I'm sure that I could, with some effort, get this thing to work, but I thought the whole point of having a windows installer was to make it more automated.

I'll keep checking back, though, hoping this gets a little more mature. I do appreciate the effort.

Me Again,

Lokster> It's open source, i just did not want to release my code to anybody. Maybe i will create a sourceforge repository but i'm not sure it fits to an AutoIT project. For the moment, i'm only sending my source to those who ask for it.

Robin> There are som way to slipstream updates but it's actually no so easy. Maybe i will make a software for that too one day :-D

NB : The next release will include a spanish translation of GUI & Help.

This is a very useful bit of software, my thanks to the creator.
A couple of questions though:

Am I right in thinking that ALL changes will be saved to the casper-rw file, including updates for Ubuntu itself, using the Updates Manager?

That makes it a bit harder to keep my uSbuntu current. Is there some way I can slipstream updates into my ubuntu .iso file so that I can just rebuild the key occasionally?

Hi.
I've now tried this software for a lil while, and i am very impressed :)
Creation of the USB stick was a breeze (somewhat more than 3 minutes to format the persistant file, but otherwise as described)

I've then used the stick in "Virtual" mode, and managed to install software and make some setting changes.
I still have to try out booting from it and see that it works equally good..

I only have one issue for now, and that is probably more related to Ubuntu LIVE, than this software, but i'll mention it anyways:
- I have been unable to use norwegian keys in terminals... (i've set up norwegian keyboard layout, and that works fine for most applications, ie gedit, but i've been unable to get it to work properly for terminals. Closest i've come is to add character encoding ISO-8859-1 to terminal, then the layout works, but im still missing æ ø and å..)
For some reason, i've never ever had this problem when i _install_ ubuntu. I have never been long enough in LIVE environment to know if this is a general problem, or related to this software or VirtualBox in any way..

Regards, and thanks for a nice program

@Slym, don't worry, it's ok even if you used my code. It's absolutely free software:)
But, don't you think that you should release your code to the public?
It's up to you, but I think that every piece software for Ubuntu must be free, so everyone can see the code, modify&improve it, share it with others etc...

Hi,

I'm the creator of this software (again). I just want to say that i put back the 1.4.1 version because the 1.4.2 had a big bug (just counting, doing nothing). I'm really sorry about that, i mixed up the release with a beta one.

Try it again, it should really work better now.

Lokster> i did not even know there was a software doing the same thing. I could show you the code if you don't trust me but i can assure you all the code is mine (except for some libraries).

Emall> I know this issue but i don't know how to address it. It's a very common issue with AutoIT made software. I will try to find a workaround for the next version.

This software does the same job as one old my program - "LiveUSB Install"

I am having the same counter issue. I started it this morning and it is still running 12 hours later. My counter is up to 2,630,000 and it's still going up. I am using a mail-order disk, that wasn't one that I burned... When I check the drive it is still blank.

I am going to let it go for the night and I will check it in the morning.

This seems like such a great program, I just hope it will work! If anyone has any suggestions - post away!
