cGmail – Email (gmail, pop3, pop3s, imap and imaps) checker and notifier applet for the gnome desktop
cGmail support gmail, pop3, pop3s, imap and imaps accounts.
Why it is different?
I've used other mail notifiers for a lot of time but none of them fulfill my needs. So I've started coding cGmail that is a new shiny mail notifier that integrate well into gnome desktop.
cGmail can use gnome keyring to store your credentials for security enanchments or, if you want, you can use a plain text file. cGmail use gnome gconf to store its settings. The app can play sounds on new mails, so you are always alerted on new messages.
cGmail can use a fresh dbus notification to tell you that a new message is into your mail box.
Install cgmail in ubuntu 11.04(Natty)
open the terminal and run the following command
sudo apt-get install cgmail
After completing the installation you can open from internet applications list shown as below
Once it opens cgmail you should see similar to the following screen here you need to click on start service
After starting service screenshot
Now you need to click on new select your mail type and enter username and password
I used cGmail for quite a while and it’s a great app. However, I did switch to Popper out of the GetDeb repositories since it integrates into the Ubuntu indicator applet instead of using its own icon in the notification area. I’ve only been using it a few weeks, but so far I’m liking it better. Also for cGmail I remember always having to make my own startup entry for cgmailservice. I think there’s an option in the settings to startup automatically, but that never worked for me. Thought I’d mention it just in case anyone who tries out cGmail has the same issue.
