I didn’t need to install firefox. I just included ppa to source list, ran update-manager and it was automatically upgraded from Firefox 3.5.
PPA sucks! From Germany I have a download speed of ~200B/s… Not only now, this is for month now…
did you try to select fastest mirror and see what happens http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-select-fastest-mirror-in-ubuntu.html
@admin:
Am I wrong in thinking that just changes the sources.list servers for the ubuntu-run servers, not for PPAs?
Also, is this packaged version of firefox branded Namoroka like the others or actually firefox?
Thank you very much for the tip.
Thanks, and good tip @Marco, I just added the ppa:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable
Then used update manager, check for updates etc, then had ff 3.6 installed
[running Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic]
GPG key ?
Thank for this post!
@Jerad, its actually Firefox 3.6, enjoy.
@Tom, thanks for the new command 😛
great….now how do i run it?
Hi,
I installed these packages:
firefox
firefox-3.6
firefox-branding
firefox-gnome-support
firefox-3.6-gnome-support
ubufox
1) Firefox uses bold, terrible antialiased fonts in menus nad for rendering webpages as well. How to tune Firefox to look as native GNOME application? Why Firefox do not respect default GNOME appearance on the 1st place?
2) How to tell Firefox to use font 10px? Font settings have only partial efect.
How do you install the keys that are needed to access launchpad when installing in Hardy?
found this elsewhere, it’s the terminal command for adding the GPG key:
sudo apt-key adv –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com –recv-keys CE49EC21
@Martin Bajer
Try this:
1. Open terminal
2. gedit ~/.fonts.config
3.enter the following text and save it:
true
true
Don’t know why it doesn’t show the my whole post.. anyway check here Martin Bajer:

I have been looking long and hard for a ppa for the latest version of Filezilla. Does anyone know of something like this? Would LOVE to upgrade to the latest version…
If you are running ubuntu 9.10 you can install latest version of filezilla from here http://www.getdeb.net/software/FileZilla
Great link. Pity it does not work… Have installed the getdeb repo. Doing and update and upgrade in a terminal produces this:
Failed to fetch http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu/pool/apps/f/filezilla/filezilla_3.3.1-1~getdeb1_i386.deb 302 Found
Failed to fetch http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu/pool/apps/f/filezilla/filezilla-common_3.3.1-1~getdeb1_all.deb 302 Found
BTW – I am on Kubuntu 9.10 with KDE 4.3.5. Just updated Firefox to 3.6.
I tried but firefox remove google search from search box, in fact it only let me to use ask.com
Please note that firefox-3.6 from this ppa is broken – it doesn’t support java at all.
Default ubuntu version works with icedtea browser plugin just fine.
@freddy
Hi freddy, thanks for your link. I tried it, Fonts remains the same.

@Martin Bajer, sorry to hear that it didn’t work for you, maybe you can try other suggestions on that link:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.5/+bug/379761
I followed this instructions step by step, everything installed, but firefox can’t be started. The FF icon in the taskbar changed to a globe icon with the tooltip text “Namoroka Web Browser”, clicking onto that does nothing!
The previous version of FF does not work anymore too.
I am using Ubuntu 8.04.
Why is it always nearly impossible to install new software on ubuntu. I am using ubuntu now for almost 3 years and it NEVER worked as written in the tutorials!
@florian
Thankfully in about 15 days you won’t have to worry about it because the next LTS will be out and Ubuntu will offer to upgrade you to that (which will have FF 3.6 by default)
@Jerad
No. The new LTS only has Firefox 3.5
Ubuntu / Canonical really needs to get new versions of Mozilla based applications out faster!
I’ve got Firefox 3.6.3 running just fine but how do I install the Java plugin – Version 6 Update 20? The repository seems to be several versions behind.
