How to install freetuxtv on ubuntu 11.10 using PPA

The goal of this project is to create a WebTV player, working on the Linux platform. It can be used by french people to watch ADSL TV on the PC with ISPs or by other people to watch WebTV and Web Radio in many languages. The GUI is developed in GTK2+ and is using the VLC engine to display the channels.

Requirements

You need to make sure you have installed VLC if not use the following command from your terminal

sudo apt-get install vlc

Install freetuxtv on ubuntu 11.10

 

Open the terminal and run the following commands

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:freetuxtv/freetuxtv-dev
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install freetuxtv

    This is not working on my Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit AMD system. It will install, but it crashes during initialization. It hangs for about 15 seconds and disappears. Watching HTOP it shows it using about 100% of my CPU during that time, before the crash. The developers may want to take a look at this application on Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit.

    i have the latest version of ubuntu on my acer aspire 3680 laptop and my speakers will not work, headphones work though. is there a driver i can install to make them work please help

    Has been working well until the update on Sunday 10th march for 12.04

    This app is problematic on 64 bit machines. Hangs when changing channels for example, the only recourse is to kill the process…

    Works on Linux Mint 18 using PPA. Need to be root to install.
