Install KDE 4.3.1 in Ubuntu Jaunty
First you need to edit the /etc/apt/sources.list file
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
add the following line
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu jaunty main
Save and exit the file
Add the GPG Keys
gpg
--
keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com--
recv 2836CB0A8AC93F7A
gpg
--
export--
armor 2836CB0A8AC93F7A | sudo apt-key add --
Update source list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
“sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list”
Why use gedit on KDE? Use Kate.
sudo kate /etc/apt/sources.list
maybe because it’s “Ubuntu Jaunty”?
its ubuntu jaunty not kubuntu jaunty.
Oh, I didn’t even realize, lol. Nevermind then, though I guess you can still take my message as a way to do the upgrade on Kubuntu.
I’ve did all the steps above correctly but nothing happened!!!
Same as Moaz I follow the steps and it comes back with nothing to upgrade. do i need to install an older version first?
Same as the others — followed the instructions and no errors, but KDE is not available as an option when I boot.
I suspect that you first need to install KDE 4.2 from Synaptic, then run this process again.
Did the upgrade … is anyone else having a problem with wallpaper not showing? I just have a checkerboard pattern across my whole desktop. If this is any hint — I have desktop effects off (weak 3D in an old video card) — when I switch them on, I briefly see my old wallpaper before it flashes to the checkerboard – then again when I turn desktop effects off. I recall I got rid of the plasma desktop folder plasmoid, or somesuch, back when I put 4.3 in place — only “non-standard” thing I can think of that I did wrt/ KDE.
Any thoughts?
Let’s make it easier…
install “kubuntu-desktop” from Synaptic Package Manager ….. 🙂
