Upgrade ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) desktop

The Ubuntu team is very pleased to announce the release of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Long-Term Support) for Desktop, Server,Cloud, and Core products.This tutorial will explain how to Upgrade ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) desktop

Before upgrade

  • Make sure you have all updates applied to ubuntu 11.10 before upgrade
  • Take a complete backup of your system

Start Upgrade process

You need to launch the update manager from dash.Press your windows key from your keyboard to launch dash and search for update manager

Once update manager opens you need to click on check button to check for new updates you can see updating cache window as follows

Now you can see new ubuntu release available for upgrade and Click on upgrade to start the upgrade process

You can see similar to the following release notes here you need to click upgrade

Enter password to perform administrative tasks and click on ok

Preparing for upgrade is in progress

If you have any third party sources list you should see similar to the following message here click on close

Do you want to start the upgrade message will appear here you need to click on Start upgrade

Downloading new packages are in progress

Once this download completed this will start installation of packages.After completing the packages installation please restart your system.

You can check your upgrade using the following command

sudo lsb_release -a
