Fix for Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) installation error in Virtualbox

Problem
I'm currently running Windows 7 x64 with the latest version of VirtualBox.When i try to boot the ubuntu 14.10 gnome 64-bit version .iso file it will get through the inital Ubuntu 14.10 loading screen and i am seeing the following screen followed by blank screen

Solution

You need to press Ctrl+Alt+F1 key combination and you should see similar to the following screen

Now press Ctrl+Alt+F7 this should get you the installation screen

    On Kubuntu 14.04,with Vbox Ctrl+F1/F7 did the trick. Using alt invoked the command on the host machine, at least in my case.

    What if your host is Linux? Ctrl/Alt F1/F7 is processed by the host not the VM.

    If your host is Linux, you can use the host-F1/F7 (host key defaults to Right Ctrl).
