Moosplash – a cowsay inspired USplash theme for Ubuntu

Usplash is a userspace application that uses the Linux framebuffer interface or direct vesa access to draw a splash screen at boot. It has a companion utility that is able to send commands to usplash, allowing information about the bootup sequence to be displayed in a more attractive way.

First you need to edit the /etc/apt/sources.list

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

add the following lines

For Intrepid Users

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/corenominal/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/corenominal/ubuntu intrepid main


For Hardy Users

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/corenominal/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/corenominal/ubuntu hardy main

save and exit the file

Now you need to update the source list using the following command

sudo aptitude update

Now you need to install moosplash using the following command

sudo aptitude install moosplash

This will complete the installation.

Now you need to install startupmanager

sudo aptitude install startupmanager

Now you need to open startupmanager from System—>Administration—>Startup-Manager.Once startupmanager opens click on the "Appearance" tab and then select "moosplash" from the Usplash theme selector. Click the "Close" button and reboot.

Now you should be able to see similar to the following USplash screen

  2. editing the splash cant be that hard, #> whereis moosplash

    Perhaps a nekid ascii pic of a chick with big b00bs instead!
