Install Ear Candy in Ubuntu
First you need to edit /etc/apt/sources.list file
gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
Add one of the following lines
For Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) Users
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/flimm/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/flimm/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
For Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid)
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/flimm/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/flimm/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
Save and exit the file
Now you need to add the GPG key using the following command
sudo apt-key adv
--
keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com--
recv-keys 6E73CA45
Now update the source list using the following command
sudo apt-get update
Install Ear Candy Using the following command
sudo apt-get install earcandy
This will complete the installation.
Now you can open ear candy from command line using the following command
ear_candy
If you want you can also add this to your startup applications
Once Earcandy is started you should notice the Earcandy tray icon on top.

With jaunty ppa also works on Karmic.
Nice program!
Thanks but doesn’t seem to work. I get this error, even though I had installed the repisotory.
sudo apt-get install earcandy
Reading package lists… Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information… Done
E: Couldn’t find package earcandy
Nice program.
One minor problem: After installing both menu and startup applications items are incorrect (on my 9.04). They both try to start earcandy and not ear_candy.
Once changed they work correctly.
its great, but wouldn’t it be better if it paused your music instead of muting it. maybe for the next version?
It installed fine ,but I had the same problem as cyberjack above..Another problem is I have no sound in chromium browser or streamtuner now..How do I fix this?
1) Is this working with the pulseaudio LIRC module ?
2 ) If yes, would it show an on-screen notification when changing volume that way ?
This program seems a DREAM for living room media centers, but to be completely perfect it needs the 2 points above to be true.
In my 9.04 runs perfect. Nice application. Now I have direct control of my usb sound without editing the Volume Applet! Great post!
Only one problem: volume steps are too coarse and I didn’t find a way to refine it. Any idea?
What about lucid?
in ubuntu lucid the program is earcandy NOT ear_candy
Does not work in natty
