How to Set VMWare resolution fullscreen as your Ubuntu desktop

First you need to open VMWare, don't boot any guest OS.
Now go to "View" and select "Autofit window" and "Autofit Guest" and Close VMWare.
Open terminal window enter the following command and press enter
sudo gedit ~/vmware/preferences
You need to change the following line
pref.autoFitFullScreen = "fitHostToGuest"
to
pref.autoFitFullScreen = "fitGuestToHost"
save and exit the file .Open VMWare, start your virtual machine, put it full screen. When you get to Windows, it will probably say that it can't set the resolution. On Windows, go to the monitor properties and you should be able to set the desired resolution.

guest os : ubuntu.
i am not able to view the guest os in full screen mode using vmware. kindly let me know the procedure
I had the same problem, but a workaround to get my Ubuntu 10.10 desktop (guest OS) full screen in VMware Player 3.1.4 (host OS: Windows Vista/7) seems to be to shutdown Ubuntu and manually set the same resolution as in the host OS. So go to ‘Virtual Machine’ > ‘Virtual Machine Settings’ > ‘Display’ and enter the resolution. (At least this worked for my Asus EeePC netbook, which has the odd resolution of 1024 x 600.)

go to system>prefence>display
set the resolution–1920*1080(16:9)
and that’s it

Go to System>Preferences/Display then click. A new window will open. Top right corner is a drop down menu where you can choose different resolutions of your choice.
That’s all there is to it.
Going to the command line might be confusing, just use the GUI provided Ubuntu.

Not all vms have those resolutions. you can’t take that for granted
after installing the vita switch on window in VMware then right click and goes to properties set the resolution as u required..
