Karmic Alpha 5 released

Welcome to Karmic Koala Alpha 5, which will in time become Ubuntu 9.10.

Pre-releases of Karmic are *not* encouraged for anyone needing a stable system or anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional, even frequent breakage. They are, however, recommended for Ubuntu developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting, and fixing bugs.

Alpha 5 is the fifth in a series of milestone CD images that will be released throughout the Karmic development cycle. The Alpha images are known to be reasonably free of showstopper CD build or installer bugs, while representing a very recent snapshot of Karmic. You can download it here:

Perhaps I just need to download it again but this image crashes when I select to install or just load the live boot image when tested in VirtualBox 3.0.4.

Nevermind… Just got to looking closer (and not doing the install remotely) and noticed the image that I got was only 30MB. Going to download again (and I’m grabbing the alternate this time) and will give it another go.

Well looks like it still fails to boot the OS after a successful install… Sad to see so many problems after Alpha 4 was so easy to test in VirtualBox.

Alas I have a Acer 4350 laptop and the 9100m video card is not recognized. I will have to install from the alternate-cd and install the propritary nvidia drivers.

Yea this one was a nostalgia version! To make the real Linux diehards remember what it was like back in the day…
