Ubuntu Tip : gecko-mediaplayer – Media plug-in for Gecko browsers

Gecko Media Player is a browser plug-in that uses GNOME MPlayer and Mplayer to play media in a browser. It uses the NS4 API and is therefore compatible with all NS4 derived browsers: Iceweasel, Firefox, Iceape, Epiphany, Galeon, Midbrowser, etc.

Install gecko-mediaplayer in Ubuntu Jaunty

sudo apt-get install gecko-mediaplayer

  1. It seemed to install OK for me. Had to run sudo apt-get update beforehand, then the install of gecko media player worked great.

  2. Package gecko-mediaplayer is not available, but is referred to by another package.
    This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
    is only available from another source

    E: Package ‘gecko-mediaplayer’ has no installation candidate
